西安外国语大学 Xi’an International Studies University (XISU)

Founded in 1952, the University is one of the earliest four institutions of higher learning established to offer foreign languages in the new China. It is also the only government-run institution of higher learning to offer foreign languages in the northwest. In the recent year, the University, taking a firm grip on the historic opportunity of big strides in higher education and large-scale development in the west, has realized transformation from an institution of single branch of foreign languages to a new type of interdisciplinary sort to cover the aspects of literature, economy, management, legal science, engineering and pedagogy by deepening reforms on teaching and adjusting structures of specialties.

XISU has dedicated itself to serving national and regional development and diplomatic strategy, stably promoting “The Belt and Road” initiative, and deploying international education, and thoroughly improving the effectiveness of international cooperation and exchanges and global influence. Over the past decade, XISU has sent out more than 10 delegations annually, and they all successfully accomplished the missions of promoting the international development and reputation of the University. Meanwhile, XISU also welcomed nearly 200 members from 100 delegations of universities, research institutes, and embassies and consulates, as well as about 30 internationally renowned scholars and experts every year. Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz has also been invited as honorary professor. In sum, XISU has received 759 foreign delegations of nearly 2800 visitors. The University has maintained good cooperative relationship with universities, research institutes, and embassies and consulates worldwide.

The University has an enrollment of 20,000 students, of whom full-time regular students under 4-year programs account for 9,721, postgraduates for MA reach 633 and international students are 517. In addition, personnel dispatched abroad by the state exceed 300.

The School of Chinese Studies is the first institution that specializes in teaching Chinese as a foreign language (TCFL) in northwest China. The School is multilingual base for promoting TCFL authorized by Hanban, the Standing Director of International Society for Chinese Language Teaching (ISCLT), Presidential Organization of Society of Education for International Students in Shaanxi Province, and teaching institution approved by Ministry of Education for international students who receive scholarship from government of China and Confucius Institute.

The School is equipped with a team of quality instructors including one Fulbright scholar, two professors, 12 associate professors and 40 full-time instructors, who have remarkable contributions in the fields of sinology, Chinese teaching and cross-cultural communication.

Program:

The School offers undergraduate programs: international economics and trade, tourism management, international politics, diplomacy, teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, Chinese, translation and interpretation, business administration, and other language-related programs.
