With five campuses in the three cities of\nGuangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen, and ten affiliated hospitals, the University is\nstriving to become a world-class university and global center of learning. It\nis one of the China`s highest ranked multi-disciplinary institutions, marked by\na unique combination of history, prestige and beauty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an engaging community, SYSU is dedicated\nto the excellence in teaching and learning. SYSU faculty members devote\nthemselves both to students and to academic research. In 2016, the University\nhad eighteen disciplines ranked in the top 1% in the world based ESI, which\nranked second in China. Benefiting from its location near HONG KONG and MACAO\nand the regional advantage of opening and economic development, the university\nhas become an important base for training high-level talents, scientific\nresearch, providing services to society and inheriting cultural traditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td>\n  Postgraduate\n  <\/td><td>\n  27,173\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Undergraduate\n  <\/td><td>\n  32,106\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  International student\n  <\/td><td>\n  1,294\n  <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre for Chinese Language and Culture, which is part of The School\nof Foreign Languages, offers non-degree Chinese language courses for overseas\nstudents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four elementary levels (Chuji 1,\n2, 3, 4), four intermediate levels (Zhongji 1, 2, 3, 4) and two advanced levels\n(Gaoji 1, 2). Each course is for one semester (17 weeks) in duration, and\nstudents will generally not move classes during that semester. Students are\nallocated to levels mainly according to the results of their placement exam.\nthe center arranges 20 periods of classes per week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Chuji 1 is for absolute beginners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Chuji 2 is for those who know Pinyin and\na little bit of basic Chinese. (Studied previously for less than 50 hours.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Chuji 3 is for those who know five to six\nhundred words. (Studied previously for about 300 hours.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Chuji 4 is for those who know seven to\neight hundred words. (Studied previously for about 350 hours.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Zhongji 1 and 2 are for those who know\nmore than 1200 words. (Studied previously for about 600 \u2013 650 hours.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Zhongji 3 and 4 are for those who know\nmore than 2500 words. (Studied previously for about 900 \u2013 950 hours.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Gaoji 1 and 2 are for those who know more\nthan 4000 words. (Studied previously for more than 1200 hours.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who study for more than one\nsemester at our center, it is typical to move up two levels at the beginning of\nthe next semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They provide about ten different optional\nclasses each semester. These classes include Characters, Elementary Reading,\nElementary Writing, Cantonese, HSK Tutorial, News Reading, Chinese History,\nChinese Songs, Taiji and Calligraphy.These classes are free to all full-time\nstudents enrolled in our School, to a maximum of four periods per week.
