Founded in 1952, the University is one of\nthe earliest four institutions of higher learning established to offer foreign\nlanguages in the new China. It is also the only government-run institution of\nhigher learning to offer foreign languages in the northwest. In the recent\nyear, the University, taking a firm grip on the historic opportunity of big\nstrides in higher education and large-scale development in the west, has\nrealized transformation from an institution of single branch of foreign\nlanguages to a new type of interdisciplinary sort to cover the aspects of\nliterature, economy, management, legal science, engineering and pedagogy by\ndeepening reforms on teaching and adjusting structures of specialties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

XISU has dedicated itself to serving\nnational and regional development and diplomatic strategy, stably promoting\n“The Belt and Road” initiative, and deploying international\neducation, and thoroughly improving the effectiveness of international\ncooperation and exchanges and global influence. Over the past decade, XISU has\nsent out more than 10 delegations annually, and they all successfully\naccomplished the missions of promoting the international development and\nreputation of the University. Meanwhile, XISU also welcomed nearly 200 members\nfrom 100 delegations of universities, research institutes, and embassies and\nconsulates, as well as about 30 internationally renowned scholars and experts\nevery year. Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz has also been\ninvited as honorary professor. In sum, XISU has received 759 foreign\ndelegations of nearly 2800 visitors. The University has maintained good\ncooperative relationship with universities, research institutes, and embassies\nand consulates worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University has an enrollment of 20,000\nstudents, of whom full-time regular students under 4-year programs account for\n9,721, postgraduates for MA reach 633 and international students are 517. In\naddition, personnel dispatched abroad by the state exceed 300.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The School of Chinese Studies is the first\ninstitution that specializes in teaching Chinese as a foreign language (TCFL)\nin northwest China. The School is multilingual base for promoting TCFL\nauthorized by Hanban, the Standing Director of International Society for\nChinese Language Teaching (ISCLT), Presidential Organization of Society of\nEducation for International Students in Shaanxi Province, and teaching institution\napproved by Ministry of Education for international students who receive\nscholarship from government of China and Confucius Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The School is equipped with a team of\nquality instructors including one Fulbright scholar, two professors, 12 associate\nprofessors and 40 full-time instructors, who have remarkable contributions in\nthe fields of sinology, Chinese teaching and cross-cultural communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The School offers undergraduate programs:\ninternational economics and trade, tourism management, international politics,\ndiplomacy, teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, Chinese,\ntranslation and interpretation, business administration, and other\nlanguage-related programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
