北京语言大学 Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU)
BLCU was established in 1962 and is known as the Mini-United Nations. it is the only university of its kind in China that specializes in offering Chinese language and
culture courses to foreign students. Meanwhile, BLCU provides professional courses in various fields, such as foreign languages, Chinese language, information science, economics, arts, and other majors to Chinese students. In addition, BLCU helps foster the growth of our academic faculty and supplies language courses designed for those who plan to study abroad. Over 50 years of development has made BLCU a multidisciplinary university that has enhanced language teaching and research.
In the area of Teaching Chinese as Foreign Language (TCFL) and the promotion of Chinese culture, BLCU has the longest history, the largest size and the most well qualified academic faculty. Since its founding, the university has trained some 200,000 foreign students who are proficient in Chinese language and familiar with Chinese culture from 183 countries and regions. Many alumni have become celebrities in various fields such as education, politics and business.
BLCU conducts Sino-foreign joint programs in various forms. It conducted joint-degree programs in undergraduate and graduate levels with over 10 foreign universities. In recent years, around 100 teachers teach overseas and more than 400 students study abroad each year. The university receives over 1500 international visitors each year as well.

Location: Beijing Language and Culture University is located within the Zhongguancun High-Tech Park, which is like a forest of higher education. In the vicinity are Tsinghua University, Peking University and 8 other top rated universities. Nearby Wudaokou is nicknamed “the center of the universe” because it is a prosperous strip that blends together multiple cultures and nationalities. Other than the shopping mall in Hualian Tower and Hualian Supermarket, all kinds of restaurants, cafes, bars, dance clubs, clothing shops, general stores, movie theaters, book stores and fitness centers are within walking distance and earn the patronage of young shoppers both foreign and domestic.

- Long-term Courses
Elementary Chinese Courses: This is an integrated skills classes that aims to improve Chinese skills through frequent practice and various exercises including word practice, summarizing grammar points and various integrated drills，deepening and strengthening students’ grasp of Chinese words and grammar、 understanding the rules of how to distinguish and memorize Chinese characters、consolidate and broaden vocabulary、improve reading ability and skills， improve one’s ability to implement Chinese knowledge，while you can grasp that how to deal with the New HSK exam at the same time .
Intermediate Chinese: Comprehensive language skills training course; compulsory course for Intermediate Chinese which aims at improving students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. This course can expand our students’ vocabulary and develop their oral and written ability by teaching them some knowledge of Chinese language and culture and training them to put their language expression into practice.
Advanced Chinese: Compulsory course for Advanced Chinese; It focuses on further improving our students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. It can not only expand our students’ vocabulary, but also elevate their ability to analyse and use the words properly, accelerate their reading speed, improve their accurate comprehension and communication ability so as to let our students master and utilize Chinese fluently and flexibly and have a better understanding of the wonderful Chinese language.
- Preparatory courses
In order to satisfy the various needs from students, the school offers two programs: essential courses (compulsory) and practical courses (optional). With the concept of task-based teaching as well as colorful activities, students can apply their knowledge and expose themselves to the essence of Chinese culture so as to effectively improve their practical language skills. After accomplishing the required courses with qualified academic performance and achieving the entrance requirements of institutions of higher learning in China, students can proceed to the degree programs in various professions in our university or our joint training partners such as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nanjing University, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, and Beijing Wuzi University. The school will also offer necessary assistance in recommending other universities if needed.
- Short courses
Flexible and Full-range Courses (one semester or less): it offers 4-week, 5-week, 12-week, and term-long Chinese language and culture training courses all year round, and 4-week, 5-week, 6-week, and 8-week courses during the summer vacation period. All courses are provided with two options, i.e. 20 hours/week training course and 30 hours/week intensive course. All courses are conducted in sixteen different levels of six ranks, i.e. A, B, C, D. E. and F, ranging from the beginner’s to advanced. Students are placed in appropriate classes after a placement test upon registration. BLCU also offers a diversity of individualized Chinese language and culture training courses, summer camps, and cultural tours for special enterprises, schools, organizations and so on.
